Julie Marie Vilsmeyer Stewart, 76, of Norton Shores, Michigan, died peacefully at home on Saturday, August 19, 2023. She was preceded in death by her father Henry Edward Vilsmeyer, her mother Ruth Marion Tueffel, and her first husband Jack Michael Stewart. 

Julie was born and lived in Virginia, Minnesota until she left home to attend the University of Minnesota at Duluth where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology/Psychology in 1969. Afterward, she accepted a position with the Muskegon County Department of Social Services. In 1971, she met her first husband, Mike, and they lived happily together with their family until his untimely death in 1982. 

Julie then returned to school at Grand Valley State University to earn her Master’s Degree in Social Work, working for many organizations in the greater Muskegon area including Visiting Nurses, Catholic Social Services, Hackley Hospital, and Hospice. 

She and her second husband, Bill Papo, shared 27 years of laughter and travel together before she passed. 

Julie enjoyed her grandchildren (most of all), her children (only slightly less so), traveling with Bill, holiday decorating, working crossword puzzles, membership in Eastern Star, and playing bridge with her Tuesday bridge ladies. Her family and friends will sorely miss her.
